As a service to our guests, we offer a complimentary pick-up service from anywhere in Siem Reap. Not only is this a FREE pick-up service, but you will also avoid the hassles from motodops and tuk-tuk drivers when you arrive Siem Reap by bus or taxi. This is especially worth noting if you plan to travel overland from Bangkok. As with any other hotel and guesthouse that do not participate in the many bus scams and complex commission based pricing structures, DO NOT be diverted from your choice of hotel or guesthouse, with comments like, it’s closed, it’s flooded, it's too far away from town etc. as this is just a way of getting you to stay at 'their' hotels and guesthouses where they will receive hefty commissions for dropping you off.

We feel confident that you will enjoy your stay at European, so instead of letting the tuk-tuk drivers talk you into something else, read our reviews and see for yourself.

If you should have any questions or inquiries, please also call us directly on +855 (0)12 582 237 and we will be happy to assist.

Please make sure to contact us about your arrival details including the name of the airline or bus company if you're arriving Siem Reap overland. Please make use of European's complimentary pick-up service. There are several bus stations in town and contacting us with the name of the bus company that is on the ticket will help our drivers find you easier. We will have a driver there holding a sign with your name and European Guesthouse on it. We know it is sometimes difficult traveling here just be patient when you arrive in Siem Reap, we will find you.

Arriving Siem Reap overland from Bangkok or Koh Chang...?

Guests Must Contact European Guesthouse When Arriving In Siem Reap! Please call this number: 012 582 237

From Bangkok:

A Taxi is around 2000 Baht (65$US) and we have personally taken a metered Taxi from Bangkok to the border and the meter read 2000 Baht. It is the fastest way and not too expensive if you share.

Minivans and buses are also available to Aranyaprathet where you cross into Cambodia at Poipet. Most leave from Koh San Road in Bangkok and if you book all the way to Siem Reap you will sometimes be dropped off at a guesthouse in Aranyaprathet and told you must spend the night. Some have successfully delivered their customers but usually this is not the case. One alternative is to book a ride on a minvan or bus only to the border but expect them to drop you off at their friend’s restaurant in Aranyaprathet a few kilometers from the border. At that point pay a tuk tuk 20 Baht to take you to the border. Only buy a visa in Cambodia after you have cleared Thai customs!

Another alternative is to book a local Thai bus leaving from the Eastern Terminal. It makes a lot of stops but it drops you at the bus station where it is easy to get a 20 Baht tuk tuk ride to the border. There are also trains available from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet. It is a nice ride but it is extremely slow.

From Koh Chang:

Read the section above on arriving from Bangkok. There is another choice coming from Koh Chang. A border crossing at Ban Pakard, Thailand to Pailin, Cambodia is rarely used but potentially saves you more time and headache because of the border scams running in Aranyaprathet and Poipet. Few people are able to take this route because you need to take a taxi to get there. We have not heard of any minibus service going from Koh Chang to this crossing. Latest news says that the crossing there is very straight forward. Transport can be arranged from Pailin to Battanbang and from there it is very easy to reach Siem Reap. Any new information on the Pailin crossing will be posted as soon as we hear of it.

Crossing into Cambodia:

Please note that the US Dollar is the preferred currency in Cambodia. You should not bother to change your money to Riels as it is merely a scam to give you a bad exchange rate. Buy your Cambodian visa at the customs office only and only pay $20USD for a tourist visa or $25USD for a business visa. The prices are fixed and posted on the wall if you can find it. Border officials will try to extort you by over charging or asking you to pay in Baht but try to bring USD to avoid this. The tourist visa is only good for 30 days while the business visa may be extended indefinitely.

Poipet to Siem Reap:

Unfortunately Poipet suffers from the same problems as Aranyaprathet. Many people make a living off of scamming tourists. In the past you negotiated your trip to Siem Reap as soon as you crossed the border. European Guesthouse was able to send a taxi to pick up guests. Now they are trying to shuttle tourists to the new government bus station were they charge you a very high flat rate for taxis or buses. Buses are extremely slow sometimes taking 3 hours for a ride of 120 km. If you have the money we recommend you take a taxi. Try hard to negotiate, the price is anywhere from $30USD-$45USD and the more patience you have the better.

Travelers coming overland from Bangkok or Koh Chang will probably arrive later than initially expected. Border crossings continue to be difficult despite the newly paved road from Poipet to Siem Reap. Please contact us if you are traveling overland from Bangkok so that the drivers will be able to pick you up from where you are dropped off. Again don’t believe drivers who tell you to go to another guesthouse or that you have to make tour arrangements with them the following day.
